The Rebranded Kalasha International Film & TV Festival & Market Registration opens on Wednesday 15th July 2015!

The Kalasha Film & TV Awards has been rebranded to Kalasha International Film and TV Festival and Market. It is a brand new initiative from the Kenya Film Commission in partnership with the French Embassy in Kenya, that aims to position Kenya as the leading country that stimulates intra-trade and worldwide activities in the film and TV fields in East Africa.

Dedicated to promoting cultures, stories, creativity and skills within the East African region, the festival and market’s duration is of one week. It will be organized on an annual basis.

As for 2015, Kalasha International is scheduled from 26-30 October in Nairobi.

For the first time, Kalasha festival will thus be comprising of :

The event, a creative hub, intends to bring together, for the first time, all the players from the Eastern Africa Film & TV industry in one place and at the same time; offering a platform for all the regional and international players and the festival goers from the Film & TV industry to gather, discuss, exchange, collaborate, share stories and develop new business opportunities.

Main objectives

  • The event primary objectives are:
  • To showcase Kenya as a major regional hub for film and TV production, post-production and distribution across all platforms and genres;
  • To contribute to shape Kenya’s image, as well as the eastern Africa region, at the international level, enhance tourism, provide employment and foster local productions and skills through a vibrant Film & TV industry.

Trade show

  • The Kalasha Eastern Africa Film & TV Trade Show is scheduled for 2 days - 27-28 October 2015 in Nairobi.
  • It will showcase the East African companies under national pavilions (Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Mauritius, Madagascar and Reunion);
  • Visitor pass is free for all the professionals from the creative industry and for the students in the Film, Communication and Creative schools;
  • All registered participants will have access to user-friendly contacts data-base to pre-arrange potential meetings prior to the event;
  • participants will be able to meet up and do business with Media players from all around the globe.

Film festival

The Kalasha International Film Festival is scheduled for one week - 26-30 October - in various venues throughout the country, showcasing films from all around Africa.


The Kalasha Film & TV Awards is a Red Carpet Ceremony rewarding the best of Africa.
